Along with great picture quality and cheap price, this lens is very light weight and small enough that it will basically fit in your jeans, making it a perfect portable lens for no further effort.

As was stated previously, this lens is quite handy at just 64x39mm and light at only 155g.
You might think that since this lens is so low priced, that its image feature must be inferior also. However, the build quality of this lens is quite decent with a combination of metal and polycarbonate as the key components.
The fairly little rubber focus ring has a really smooth function and the front element does not rotate with a polarizer attached so this is another good thing too - we all know how troublesome a rotating front portion with a polarizer is.
Overall the Nikon 50mm 1.8 does not possess the same reputation that a lot of the flagship Nikon lenses do, but it is still a quiet and very competent performer in its own way.
It does not come up short badly in any particular area, maybe the only bad point could be that it is soft on the borders wide open and perhaps includes a slight contrast deficiency too.
Of course for the price, these minor details can easily be overlooked when buying this awesome Nikkor 50mm 1.8.
