The essential commands to teach your dog are sit, stay and come. These basic training commands are essential and will serve for the remainder of your dog's life. Any time that you and your dog are in public it's an embarrassment for him to be running berserk in the open, you want to show him off as the perfect pet that you think he is.
Getting frustrated because your dog jumps up on people when you are in public? Can't understand why your dog runs away from you in the reserve while everyone else's pet happily comes back to them?
The best thing to do is to join a dog obedience training school. Your dog can learn how to be well behaved in a short period of time with the right sort of attention, dedication and patience.
No matter where you live, you will find a dog obedience training facility nearby, so if you can't teach your dog by yourself there is plenty of support available at any one of the available classes. Not only will you be training your dog you will be in company with him, mixing with other people and their dogs.
Treats are a common way to teach your dog obedience; you can reward him with a treat when he does something you want him to do, or If he doesn't obey then he doesn't get the treat. Shouting at your dog is not a good idea as he will only become scared of you and you must avoid that at all costs, you want to form an everlasting relationship with him. Make friends with a dog and you will have a friend for ever.
When doing your basic dog training try and carry out the lessons away from any distractions like sticks or bones that he may want to play with. Take him to a quiet beach or vacant area that maybe nearby, where there aren't any other people or animals. Tell your dog firmly that you want him to sit, then place your hand over his hind quarters and gently push him down into a sitting position, when he is in the sitting position tell him he's a good boy, then reward him with a treat.
By regularly repeating this exercise, your dog will respond to the sit command, because he realizes that by obeying you he will be compensated and also because he can see that you are pleased with his efforts. Ultimately your dog will obey you as a matter of course, and you can dispense with the treats.
Newborn puppies are really quiet helpless and need to be loved and taught how to behave. Dogs have the ability to learn at any age but the younger you start the better, because it becomes more difficult as the dog grows older and gets set in his ways.
