Keeping Honeybees And Making Honey Out Of It

Keeping bees and making honey can be an enjoyable hobby, and a terrific way to make good savings. These insects are usually quite fun to own, in spite of what few people think. The problem is, the hobby requires a bit of work. Here is a list of few tips which a beginning beekeeper must know before getting started.

First of all, you need to get a good quality man-made hive, unless you are thinking about carrying one in from the wild (not advised). The synthetic hives on the market are made of wood, and they have more the look of a small wood cabinet. The top ones must come with 5 supers (where the honey and baby honey bees are kept).

These supers are found in the center portion of the hive, and each one of them have nine to ten different frames. Each and every frame is used to store honey and baby honey bees. The more expensive hives will have much deeper supers, so that you can keep extra honey bees. If you want more bees and more honey, then you'll want to purchase much deeper supers.

If you live somewhere which gets snowfall, you might have to put in a bit more effort for the bee keeping than if you resided in a warmer climate. Mainly because you've to get insulation to keep the bees secured from the conditions. The reason is, bees need a comparatively warm temperature inside in order to survive.

Most hives artificial wood hives are made with a brood box and some supers that you can take out. The problem is, often there are small cracks in them which will let in the outside air, making it cooler. For this reason, you must insulate the bee hive to avoid this. You also will probably have to provide them cane syrup for their food during the winter seasons, as they will not be in a position to leave the bee hive. Finally, you might even have to keep out mice, who like to shelter there to keep warm.

The bottom line is, there are several things you've to know for keeping bees. All these beginner steps are just the tip of the iceberg. The particular hobby does require effort, but the results are definitely worth it.
