Lenny and Angie have been married for seven years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they made up their minds to have a family and so they consciously developed an incredibly vigorous social life.
The major difficulty, it needs to be underscored, is that practically everything they do for excitement has something to do with drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, dinner engagements, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and happy hours they frequent somehow include drinking.
If they were moderate or responsible drinkers this wouldn't be such a difficult situation. Because they drink in an irresponsible manner, nonetheless, they are starting to notice some definite alcohol-related issues in their lives.
As an illustration, a short time ago Lenny was placed in custody for a third DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than commendable and he has begun to fail to recall what he says or does the times that he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to get nervous about his drinking problems.
Similarly, Angie has been feeling unhappy with life in general and to deal with these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past six months. What is more, Angie has been experiencing quite a few painful headaches and suffering from agonizing hangovers due to her drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling appreciably less energetic in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been receiving some inconsiderate criticism from her friends, relatives, family members, and coworkers about her hazardous and careless drinking.
One Friday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny inadvertently discovered a TV special about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real eye opener to Angie and Lenny because numerous alcohol facts that were highlighted looked as if they were unwaveringly associated with more than a few of the drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been experiencing.
With thoughts of the television documentary still etched in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been exhibiting could mean that they are alcohol dependent or conceivably becoming alcoholic. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they schedule an appointment with one of the doctors at the nearby alcohol abuse treatment center to find out more about the severity of their drinking situation.
Ironically, although their drinking circumstances hadn't yet changed, it was clear to see that Lenny and Angie were at least addressing their drinking problems, they were ready to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were concerned about how they could notably cut back on or do away with the drinking-related problems that had started to escalate.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they decided that the next day, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol abuse rehab center located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to conquer the drinking problems that had become apparent in their lives, they truly had the most energizing night's sleep they could think of in the last month.
